Balsarite is used to prep balsa for using any of the film type covering.  It is especially helpful when covering plywood or hardwood with film.  The film just sticks better.  It can also be used to fuelproof an engine or tank compartment, where you aren't actually going to be covering (a little lighter in weight than gooping it all up with epoxy).

Tackcloth is a requirement in your shop.  Store it in a jar or a plastic bag, and whip it out for your finishing phase.  Vacuuming your airframe is always a good idea, as well as using compressed air.  But going over it with a tack rag is cheap insurance that you don't have a stray booger or sliver of balsa tucked up under your covering that will always be visible until you retire the airplane.  Always.
